Welcome back to School!  We have a full schedule of events this fall, starting with a home football game vs. Bluffton on Aug 20, followed by a home game Aug 27 and again on Sept. 3^rd.  Three straight home football weekends!  Volleyball, Cross Country, Girls Golf and three time defending State Champs Girls Tennis will be hosting events soon (please check out the athletic website at hiltonheadhighsports.com).  The weather is hot, the season has begun, and we are looking forward to seeing you all out at our events!  Many thanks to the All-Sports Booster Club and their crew of volunteers with their help at “Back to School”.  The school looks great and we are all ready to go!

This is the ONLY interstate soccer all star game in the US of A.

Boys Golf:  State Qualifier finished up in 4^th place

Girls and Boys Soccer are doing well within the Region and should contend for the Title.  Boys Coach Wayne Quinlan is quietly developing one of the strongest programs in the Lowcountry.   First year Girls Coach Ernie Souzzi is leading his young team into the playoffs again.

Girls and Boys Lacrosse recently finished up their seasons.  The Girls lost in the first round to Bluffton.  The Boys magical season came to an end in Columbia last week at the hands of Wando.  I was very impressed with the season the Boys had.  We were ranked #1 in the State going into the Final Four.   Joe Monmonier and his coaching staff do a wonderful job.  They embody what is best about High School Athletics-Integrity, Work Ethic, Accountability, I could go on and on.  Congratulations Joe and the Lacrosse Boys for an outstanding season!

The HHIHS Athletic Banquet will be held on Thursday May 20^th from 6-9pm at Hilton Head Presbyterian Church Hall.  There will be a buffet dinner followed by the Athletic Award Winners Presentation.  Tickets are $10.00 for everyone and will go on sale in early May.  Seating will be limited and will be first come first serve.  See you at the Ballpark!

Spring has finally arrived and with it a bevy of home and away athletic events.  Most notably Boys Lacrosse is currently undefeated at 8-0 and is primed for a run to the State Championship!  Girls Lacrosse has won some impressive games against a rugged schedule.  Boys Golf is off to a good start under first year coach Rawn Grant.  Scott Nichols has the Boys Tennis Team performing at a high level.  We’ll see how far Scott can take the boys this year.  Sarah Beachkofsky took her softball team to Florida and played against some of the best competition in the Southeast.  Sarah is doing a wonderful job building her program.  I look for a first or second place finish in the league for softball this year!  Baseball is about to start its home schedule, good luck to Chris Wells and the Seahawk ball players.  The track and field team is rounding into form.  I anticipate a strong finish at the State Tournament this year.

Special thanks to Mike Manesiotis,Greg Viventi, Meg Hendy, and all of the Booster Club volunteers for putting on a sold out golf tournament this year.  My team lost its title, but the day was great…. so was the social the night before!  See you at the Ballpark..

Happy Holidays!

Cheerleading has reached the State finals for the first time.  They compete Saturday November 21 in Columbia for the State Title!  We are off and running with the Winter Season Sports.  They have begun to practice and will open up competition shortly after Thanksgiving.

 On Thursday Nov 18, the Athletic Department will sponsor a seminar on the Student Athlete and College Recruiting.  A guest speaker from Dynamite Sports is flying in to lead the seminar.  All parents and students are encouraged to come with questions in hand.  The event is 5:00-6:00 in the media center.  Happy Thanksgiving to all!

We are off to a fast start here at the” Nest”.  Early results are positive for Swimming, Tennis , and Girl’s Cross Country.  Girl’s Cross Country is gaining attention in the Southeastern United States for their results so far this year!  Great job girls.

I hope that you have noticed the renovations that have recently taken place at Community Stadium. The hedges and trees have been trimmed in and around the perimeter of the entire stadium. We have also installed a new sign at the front entrance to the stadium, it looks great.  Thank you All Sports Booster Club for providing the labor and shared vision for the renovations for Community Stadium.

This week, we start tracking those students involved with extra-curricular activities-namely athletics.  If a student has a 76% or lower, he/she will be required to attend study hall for two one hour sessions per week.

The Athletic  Department is looking to buy used commercial lawn equipment.  We need a lawn mower, edger, weed eater and blower.  We would also be interested in trading out marketing presence for landscaping services.  If you or your company is interested, please call 689-4806 and leave a message.

Seahawk Athletics

Welcome back Seahawk Fans!  It will be a tough task to follow the historic results of our 2008-09 Athletic Programs, as most of our programs are reloading with underclassman.  Be that as it may, expectations still run high around the Nest.  Football will be looking to repeat as Region Champs and open up their home schedule on September 4 vs. James Island.  Girl’s Golf, Cross Country, Girl’s Tennis, Volleyball, Swimming and Crew will all open their Championship runs in the next few weeks.  I hope to see you all out at our venues supporting our Student Athletes!

One change to note, this year the back gate at the Football Stadium will not be open for entry.  I encourage you to park in the front of the school or in the Middle School parking lot.  If you park in one of the back lots you may walk around the sidewalk of the Baseball Stadium, toward the school campus.  The area is well lit and easily accessible to the one main entrance of the stadium.

The new additions to our coaching staff this fall year are:  Bill Boroff-Football, Scott Nichols-Girl’s Tennis, Jack Maddan-Swimming.  Welcome to the family!
